Mission
"Seek the welfare of the city" (Jeremiah 29:7)
This ancient command to the people of Israel exiled to the city of Babylon becomes a contemporary word for us today, challenging us to seek the welfare and well-being of the city in which we are placed.
To that end the congregation employs a full-time Community Development Director who runs our Ministry and Mission Programme, ensuring that our church is open during the week, bearing witness to our faith in Jesus as Lord and to what makes for peace.
Our activities include:
- A fair-trade café run in partnership with Cambridgeshire Mencap and staffed by volunteers, including people with learning difficulties (see separate item on website);
- A Fair Trade stall selling fairly traded goods and promoting just trade practices;
- Exhibitions profiling a number of issues and concerns;
- Lunchtime concerts (free, donations optional);
- The Knit Café - offering a friendly environment to knit for good causes;
- Daily prayers;
- Short (20 mins) lunchtime services (Lent and Advent);
- School assemblies;
- Pilots Company (at Cherry Hinton Road site): a Christian youth organisation for children aged 5-13 years;
- Holiday clubs (at Cherry Hinton Road site) at half-terms, offering fun and games for children aged 5-11, with a Christian theme.
Opportunities for Prayer
Friends and members are invited to make use of the church at any time for quiet reflection and prayer. In the ‘QUIET CORNER’ you may find suggestions for prayer along with a book in which you are invited to write brief details of those you would wish others to pray for. From Tuesday to Friday, those present meet daily for prayers at 10:15am
All are welcome to join us
If you would like to speak with the Minister or an Elder, or would like further information about our program of events, please make yourself known to one of our staff or call 01223 351174 or email emmanuelurc@btinternet.com
